Zach Hedstrom is the founder and owner of Boulder Mushroom. His journey into the world of mushrooms began at 14 years old when he joined the colorado mycological society and studied wild mushroom identification under the tutelage of local mushroom experts. He began teaching mushroom identification and cultivation classes in Boulder at the age of 17. In 2020 he started Boulder Mushroom out of a small cabin in Fourmile Canyon. Over the past 4 years, the company has expanded significantly and oversees research in partnership with public and private entities such as the city of boulder, boulder county parks and open space, ecocycle, boulder county office of sustainability and climate resilience, and others. Boulder Mushroom, in partnership with boulder watershed collective, was a recipient of the 2023 boulder county climate innovation fund. Their work has been featured in publications such as the Washington Post, the BBC world service, London Times, and NPR.
