Joy Beckerman is an internationally renowned hemp industries pioneer, advocate and regulatory specialist who has been involved with the hemp movement for over 30 years, and her extraordinary passion for this versatile, valuable crop is contagious! Among a world class list of roles, Joy is the Founder and Principal at Hemp Ace International, a consulting, legal support and expert witness firm serving the global community; co-founder of Colorado Hemp Works, America’s first post-prohibition hemp grain processing facility; and Advisory Board Member of the National Hemp Growers Cooperative and Environmental Living Industries. Joy has contributed thousands of hours to the hemp and cannabis movements across decades, including serving as President of the Hemp Industries Association, Executive Vice President of the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, and Director of the National Organization of the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), among other leadership positions. After many years of service to the Center for the Study of Cannabis & Social Policy (CASP), Joy’s volunteer energy focuses on CASP for which she now serves as President of the Board of Directors. Joy opened the first hemp store in New York in 1994, then relocated her family to serve as Secretary to the Vermont Hemp Council in 1996 on the heels of the passage of Vermont’s first hemp research legislation. After a successful dual career in compliance and complex civil litigation supporting some of the nation’s finest attorneys, Joy founded Hemp Ace International in 2014. She received the Hemp Industries Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and its National Hemp Activist of the Year Award in 2014.
